The Walking Dead Season 8: 10 Most Revealing Things The Cast Have Said
3. "He’s Firmly Negan"
What Was Said?
"He’s firmly Negan. He either chooses Alexandria or he chooses Negan, and he’s decided to go with Negan."
Who Said It?
Josh McDermitt (Eugene Porter) - Entertainment Weekly
What Does This Mean?
While Dwight is almost certainly a mole in Negan’s camp, McDermitt has left us with no doubt where his character Eugene's loyalty lies, and that is with Negan.
Eugene’s previously convincing switch of sides was questioned, by viewers and Negan, following his role in Sasha’s suicide, but it is now obvious that was a moment of mercy rather than a moment of strategy on behalf of his former comrades at Alexandria.
While his actions in the series seven finale demonstrate that Eugene still cares about his old friends, he cares more about his own survival and he feels that those chance are higher if he is under the protection of The Saviours. He feels more valued at The Sanctuary, but he holds no affection for its people, he simply sees it as a greater shield from death. However, the cowardly character might discover that he has backed the wrong horse this season.
