The Walking Dead Season 8: 9 Things We Learned From SDCC 2017

7. Morgan Is (Probably) Sparring With Jesus... And Likely To Die

The (very lengthy) trailer has a couple of scenes featuring Jesus and Morgan, two characters who haven't spent much time together yet. Set in the woods, we see Morgan attacking Jesus with a staff.

A few reports have suggested that this is the pair actually fighting, which would be a strange (though not impossible) development. While there'll be differences in approach, the two are on the same side. That means what we're seeing is probably the pair sparring together, training for the battles to come. From what we've seen both are fairly accomplished but in different ways, so each does have something they could teach the other.

Sticking with Morgan, we also hear him say "I don't die" in this trailer. That is... not a good line for a TV show character to say, especially on The Walking Dead. Morgan's seemed marked for death for a little while now, as his arc has taken him to a zen-life and now back to killing, and this is another piece of ominous foreshadowing of that.

Going out in Season 8, amidst All Out War, would be a fitting time to kill off a major character and add weight to the war. On the other hand, it'd mean the show losing one of its most interesting and complex characters, not to mention a great actor in Lennie James, so hopefully that doesn't come to pass.
