The Walking Dead Season 9: 5 Ups & 1 Down From 'What Comes After'

2. Andrew Lincoln's Performance

Rick The Walking Dead
AMC

Andrew Lincoln has long been the MVP of The Walking Dead, and the actor has inhabited the role of Rick Grimes incredibly well, making it hard to imagine anyone else portraying the comic book character. He's delivered some stunning performances over the years on the hit AMC series - episodes such as Too Far Gone and The First Day Of The Rest Of Your Life come to mind - but he outdoes himself in What Comes After.

In spite of being his final episode, Rick doesn't have a huge amount of dialogue, which means Lincoln has to convey Rick's emotions in a number of ways - via subtext and through facial expressions - and he does so tremendously. Whether it be during the fantasy sequences, or the present day moments featuring Rick running for his life, Lincoln delivers his greatest performance yet in this episode.

It's a real shame that The Walking Dead has constantly been overlooked at award ceremonies, because Lincoln is more than deserving of some award recognition for his portrayal of Rick.
