The Walking Dead: Why [SPOILER]'s Death Was A Mistake

2. There Are Plenty Of Expendable Characters On The Show

It's important to note that it's not Kang's decision to kill off a character that's the problem here. The introduction of The Whisperers is a crucial moment for the show, and having a central character murdered is generally a good way to demonstrate to the viewers that these new antagonists mean business. The problem is, however, that she chose Jesus - whose story was only just beginning - when she really could've opted for someone whose story has been going nowhere for quite some time now.

The Walking Dead has been bursting at the seams with characters for quite a while, which is largely the reason why people like Jesus and Aaron have been so under-appreciated. What's more, introducing a bunch of newbies this season has only made matters worse, and boasts the question of how many characters is considered too many?

With the introduction of The Whisperers approaching, Kang could've killed two birds with one stone. She could've executed (if you'll excuse the phrasing) her shocking character death, while simultaneously disposing of some of the dead weight.

Characters like Gabriel, Eugene, Rosita and Tara have been on borrowed time for quite some time now. The truth is is that none of these guys offered as much to The Walking Dead's new beginning as Jesus did, which is what makes his death so damn frustrating.
