The Wire Cast: Where Are They Now?
10. Wendell Pierce
Wendell Pierce frequently provided The Wire’s comic relief as Bunk Moreland, the quick witted homicide detective central to many of the show’s main cases. Pierce could deliver a one liner as well as anyone, but projected the character’s righteous indignation and firm moral centre along with the laughs.
Swiftly after The Wire Pierce reunited with David Simon for Treme, shot in the actor’s native New Orleans. He played trombonist Antoine Batiste, a similarly fun loving but soulful dreamer in a city ravaged by storms.
He has snagged main or recurring roles on several other TV shows since, including spells on Suits and Ray Donovan, sitcoms The Michael J. Fox Show and The Odd Couple, and Dick Wolf’s Chicago P.D.
He can presently be found playing the second lead on Amazon’s perfectly serviceable Jack Ryan series. He plays authority figure James Greer; the show has been renewed for a third season. His starring turn in Death Of A Salesman earned him an Olivier Award nomination for Best Actor.
A keen businessman, he invests heavily in housing for those displaced by Hurricane Katrina.
