14. Hello Mulder (Looking A Little Worse For Wear)

Tad O'Malley's voice over continues in this scene: "like yourself, I'm a true believer." Why is it that every crazy person seems to label themselves as a true believer of some kind or other? This first introductory shot of Fox Mulder elicits several questions. For one, he looks a little worse for the wear. Why? Maybe it's just needing a shave, but Mulder's not looking great. When we last saw him, in 2008's I Want To Believe, Mulder was a bit of a recluse but living comfortably with Scully. However, they clashed when it became clear that Scully was ready to move on with her life, while Mulder was still as obsessed as ever with "the Truth." Second, just what has he been up to? And who is he meeting? It's already known that they're on the outs when the revival kicks off, and this shot would seem to come early on in that plot line.
