While it may seem that a character like Superboy is off the table due to Superman currently leading the DC Cinematic Universe, the fact that a character like Nightwing is in the series (with Batman specifically mentioned in the announcement), perhaps there's room for the Superman clone after all. Kon-El was introduced into comics in 1993 during the Death of Superman story. After Superman came back to life and took back his mantle as Earth's mightiest hero, Kon-El took it upon himself to go by Superboy and begin his own superhero career. Over time it's revealed that he's not only a Superman clone, but genetically created from the DNA of both Superman and Lex Luthor. He's been involved in several teams over the years, including the Ravers, Teen Titans, Young Justice, and Legion of Super-Heroes. He was a key part of the Young Justice animated series, where he constantly sought the approval of Superman and was used by Lex as a weapon against the Titans. With a Supergirl series currently in development, it's clear that Warner Bros. is not against adapting members of the Super family for television. Plus, ten years of Smallville proved that Superman's powers could be adapted well for television.
