1. Band of Brothers
Try and find someone with a bad word to say about Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks' masterful WW2 drama Band of Brothers, which amasses an all-star cast (including Damian Lewis and David Schwimmer) to tell the tale of one company's trials and tribulations through various aspects of the Allied campaign. Adding a stirring, haunting emotional power to proceedings is the decision to intersperse interviews with the remaining living soldiers themselves, some of whom seem to recall the events as though they were yesterday, and reportedly almost all were extremely moved by the show's authentic depiction of those events. There is really no historical drama like it; Band of Brothers melds unsentimental emotion with thrilling action and a more comprehensive breakdown of the war's major beats than any movie would ever be able to. Simply unmissable TV.
