Twin Peaks Season 3: 10 Things That Need To Happen

7. New Characters

A lot of the more anxious speculation in the build up to Star Wars Episode VII, the upcoming revival of the classic sci-fi movie franchise, regarded what the cast would be. Obviously everybody wanted to see Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill back as their iconic characters, but surely it wouldn't work if it was just them? A bunch of old codgers farting around in space doesn't have the same dynamism as the rest of the films. Similarly, the surreal soap opera vibe of Twin Peaks was partially because it had the sort of cast you get in those daytime shows: namely, good-looking youngsters. High schoolers made up a lot of the cast, and Kyle Maclachlan was a youthful 31-years-old when he played a veteran FBI agent. He's 55 now, and the high schoolers are all grown up (Laura Palmer's less eternally young now), which means that Twin Peaks season three could maybe do with some fresh blood. Of what little information has been released about the show's resurrection so far, there certainly seems to be hints toward new characters and situations being brought in. Naturally - whilst the show hinted at time working on a loop in the town so long as the Black Lodge was in use for nefarious purposes, that's a lot harder to pull off twenty five years after the fact. People would have moved to Twin Peaks in the interim, right? Even if it does have a bit have an odd reputation, there's those gorgeous Douglas Firs to take into account. According to co-creator Mark Frost, who's back on board along with Lynch, "I've always said that Twin Peaks to me was like a novel we filmed every page of. So this is more like we found another volume of the saga, and now we want to bring that to life too," adding that "Those who want to see old faces, and those would like to see new faces, none of them will be disappointed."
