VIkings: 10 Worst Things Ragnar Lothbrok Did
3. Abandoned Everyone After France
As previously mentioned, Ragnar's adventure into Paris did not exactly go as planned the first time around.
Following his victory through deceit, the Vikings came away with a hefty sum of treasure and left a small force behind in the event of their return. The small group of settlers was led by Ragnar's own brother, Rollo, who would later be known as Rollo of Normandy.
Rollo betrayed his own people and slaughtered them in exchange for a title and the hand of Paris's princess. Upon hearing of this, the forces of Kattegat swiftly moved to take vengeance on their former ally.
What ensued was the greatest defeat any of our "heroes" had ever encountered. Rollo had managed to lure them into a trap, resulting in the deaths of countless Vikings.
The conflict ended with Ragnar instructing his troops to retreat, denouncing his former brother. After returning to Kattegat, licking their wounds, Ragnar mysteriously vanished.
Whether this was out of grief or just sheer embarrassment, the once-great King of Kings was not seen again for a number of years, causing his family to grow further apart and leaving his sons to grow up without their father.
