VIkings: 10 Worst Things Ragnar Lothbrok Did
2. Killed His Own Men In England
After his disappearance, Ragnar returned with the sole purpose of ascending to Valhalla.
With the prophecy of his death looming over him, he decided to sail to England to pick a fight with Ecbert with the hopes that that would be the end of him. Unfortunately for him, no one really wanted to go on this suicide mission bar from his son Ivar.
Taking the last of his treasure stolen from Paris, Ragnar decided to bribe dozens of aged Vikings or some that were not really fit for battle to go with him. With a ghost crew behind him, the party made their way to Wessex.
As if the journey wasn't doomed enough, many of the ships were lost at sea due to a disastrous storm that almost claimed the life of both Ragnar and his son.
After washing up on shore, they knew there was no way of winning any battle head-on. With morale low and many of the men wishing to return home, Ragnar and Ivar mercilessly killed each and every one of them in their sleep in an attempt to stay hidden from the Saxons.
These men may have only joined out of greed, but are any Vikings that seek riches truly so different? Enduring all of that only to be slaughtered in the middle of the night in a foreign land they barely wanted to be in.
