Vikings: Each Main Character Ranked From Worst To Best
4. Floki
The resident lunatic scores himself
a well-earned spot in the top four. A character that encapsulates the very
essence of what it takes to be a Viking. A murderous lover of raiding,
pillaging and plundering. Throw in his detestation of all things Christian and
we have a winner.
The finest boat builder in the world and Ragnar’s closest friend. Floki rises to prominence in the early series and becomes a key part of his raiding party. He is dedicated to the God’s and it is this level of devotion that causes tensions between the two friends. Their relationship is like that of brothers and despite their fallouts. They always make up afterwards.
He is particularly violent during the raids of England and enjoys nothing more than brutal conflict. It makes it all the better that he has a lovely wife at home, waiting for his return. The sheer contrast of character from when he is away, to being around Helga is fantastic. A rampant mad man by day, devoted husband by night.
Floki never recovers from the deaths of Ragnar and Helga. His voyage to Iceland proves to be a disaster and his mysterious disappearance is never really explained.
It was a pleasant surprise to discover his location in the Americas. It was far-fetched and ridiculous but who cares? The scene with Ubbe on the beach at the end is the perfect ending. Floki talking to Ragnar in his head made it all the sweeter.
