Falling just short of the coveted title is the main man himself, Ragnar Lothbrok. The star of the show in the earlier series and a legend. He paved the way for future generations of Vikings and will go down in history as the greatest of all time.

He is the main reason people originally tuned in for the show. The poster boy had a large weight to carry on his shoulders and he did so incredibly. His ambition could not be rivalled and the first raid of England is testament to his ability. This wasn’t enough for the man as he wanted to establish settlements across Europe.

The siege of Paris is extraordinary and the genius idea to move the ships across the river was remarkable. He always remained one step ahead of the enemy, clearly shown with his entry into Paris in a coffin. More than this was his ability to command respect from everyone he ever met. Quite often it was through fear but respect nonetheless.

Ragnar faces trials and tribulations throughout his life, battling drug addiction, loss of children and countless friends hacked to bits. Throughout it all, he remains a fair leader that always put his people first.

It was heart-breaking to see Ragnar die but the way he did typified his persona. Fearlessly sailing to England to meet his doom and then laughing as he entered Valhalla. Skol to you Ragnar.
