Westworld: Ranking Every Main Character From Worst To Best

The co-creator of Westworld and virtually a god among his creations, Dr. Robert Ford is the grand puppeteer controlling everything that happens at the park. Ford is a rare example of a character who never loses, he is winning at the start of the show and he wins in his final moments. Everything goes according to the meticulous plan laid out by Ford.

Anthony Hopkins may very well be the greatest actor of his generation and the mysticism he imbues into this character is masterful. Every line he delivers feels so important and the audience will often do their best to work out whether he's being sincere or if he's being manipulative.

Early on, you're led to believe Ford's actions are nefarious and that he will become a primary antagonist for the hosts to overcome. You think that for good reason as the reveal that Bernard is just a host who Ford uses to inhumanely murder Theresa, Bernard's lover, is particularly cruel and the implication that Ford is responsible for the death of his former partner Arnold seems plausible.

The discovery that Ford feels great guilt concerning what happened to Arnold and that he now sees he was wrong about the hosts is quite powerful as Ford's legacy is of a man who spent 30 years trying to undo the mistake he had made long ago by freeing the hosts.

Ford was complex and exceptional and his absence in Season Three was greatly felt. His shadow will always loom large over Westworld.
