Why Every Classic Companion Left Doctor Who

4. Mark Strickson - Turlough

BBC

Introduced as the Fifth Doctor's would-be assassin in Mawdryn Undead, Mark Strickson played Turlough between 1983 and 84. After this plot resolved itself in Enlightenment, Turlough was often left with very little to do! However, that's not why Strickson ultimately decided to leave.

Like Janet Fielding, Strickson decided to leave the show with Davison, departing a few weeks later in Planet of Fire. Both Fielding and Strickson joined Davison's other former companions in the floating heads montage at the end of Caves of Androzani.

After Doctor Who, Strickson went on to study zoology in Australia, and became a documentary filmmaker, working with the likes of the late Steve Irwin.
