Samantha Eggar appeared in one episode of The Next Generation, Family, wherein she played Marie Picard, the sister-in-law of Jean-Luc. At the time of her appearance, she was one very few actresses who had been nominated for an Academy Award in a Leading Role, for her role in the 1965 film The Collector.

Eggar was born Victoria Louise Samantha Marie Elizabeth Therese Eggar in London, and was for a time raised as Roman Catholic. She spoke about her time studying at the Convent school under the Nuns:

The nuns didn't have too much success with me — I've always had a violent temper. In fact, once I almost killed one of the nuns.

She had a long and varied career in film, television, and theatre. She appeared in many of the most popular series of the 70s and 80s, with recurring roles in All My Children and Anna and the King. She also voiced the role of Hera in Disney's Hercules.

For her role in The Collector, she won Best Actress at the Cannes Film Festival, Best Actress (Drama) at the Golden Globes, and Best Performance in a Foreign Film at the Sant Jordi Awards.

She was 86 when she died.
