12 Streaming Era Star Trek Episodes We're Adding To 'The Classics'

Star Trek Picard Remembrance Picard Number One
CBS Media Ventures

Star Trek: Picard came out of the gate swinging with Remembrance, which serves as one of the strongest pilots in the entire franchise. This may owe something to the audience's familiarity with at least some of the characters and setting, but the action and mystery back that up.

Opening with a sweeping shot of the Enterprise-D, before that poker game in Ten Forward, the episode wastes no time in getting to the meat of the meal. Mars explodes, a young woman sees her boyfriend murdered in front of her, and the audience is introduced to the bestest first officer in the fleet - Number One.

Patrick Stewart plays a much older, very different version of the Picard that The Next Generation fans had come to know. While the show itself would go on to have some uneven seasons, its starting point delivered exactly what was promised: this was not the man who captained two Enterprises. This was a different sort of person altogether.

With barely any missteps (looking at you, explosion that throws Picard across a roof, only for him to be perfectly fine afterwards), the episode teases the overall mystery of Data, Bruce Maddox, Dahj and Soji, and some nefarious Romulans. Jeff Russo's score does not disappoint, particularly in that final reveal.

It is an excellent start to the show. Introducing an Irish Romulan in the form of Laris certainly didn't hurt either, according to this writer, at least.
