Sometimes, Star Trek can lean too heavily on fan service. All recent iterations of the franchise are guilty of this, from omnipotent visitors to centuries-old chases. Lower Decks took delight in fan service, weaving it into the mission statement of the show from the very beginning. Did that make it inaccessible to new viewers? Perhaps. Yet did that mean long-term Trek fans were offered nuggets of gold? Definitely.

Fissure Quest sees Captain William Boimler of the USS Anaxamander assembling a team of mostly Harry Kim's to help fix spatial fissures. Along the way, he meets Curzon Dax, Doctor Garak, Hologram Bashir and, most shocking of all, T'Pol.

Jolene Blalock's tenure with Star Trek came to an end with These Are The Voyages, the much-reviled finale to Star Trek: Enterprise. Since 2005, she had barely attended any conventions or even celebrations of the show. Then, in 2023, she attended the Star Trek Day celebrations, thus inspiring Mike McMahan to reach out to her.

He sent her a letter, explaining how much she meant to him and to the fans, and explaining his hopes for including her in an episode. Thankfully, she accepted the invitation, and a decades-old separation came to an end.

Fissure Quest itself is a fun adventure, though without the various cameos (shout-out to Garrett Wang, Andrew Robinson, Alexander Siddig, and Alfre Woodard), it may not reach classic status. As a celebration of the various iterations of Star Trek, however, it shines as bright as dilithium at warp.
