When starting a verbal war, it wouldn't exactly be labelled as a sensible decision to pick on one of the most Notorious trash talkers to ever step onto a sporting stage.

Yet in 2016 - when paired up to defend his Lightweight title against Conor McGregor - Eddie Alvarez did just that and was made to look like a complete clown thanks to his poor choice of words.

Bragging about being able to 'get it done in any manner', Alvarez went on to denounce McGregor's defence as 'terrible' and even labelled it as the 'worst in the division.'

After confessing that he'd 'never felt so unthreatened by another human being', you could already sense what was coming for the champ.

Not protecting himself after going in for the kill, his comments on McGregor's defence acted as the ultimate irony when Alvarez was caught by a deadly counter-left and TKO'd in the second round at UFC 205 - with The Notorious one thus becoming a double champ.

He did get one thing right though, predicting that the fight would end inside the second round... take what you can, Alvarez.
