UFC On ESPN 4 Main Card Preview & Predictions
1. Rafael Dos Anjos (29-11) Vs. Leon Edwards (17-3)
While the fight isn't generating a ton of buzz, Rafael Dos Anjos versus Leon Edwards could wind up being one the summer's best main events.
dos Anjos is a high-volume striker who likes to push his opponents into the cage and overwhelm them with offensive flurries. He is also very good about mixing in takedowns and is one of the most well-rounded fighters in the welterweight division. The Brazilian is coming off a submission victory over Kevin Lee, whom he defeated in mid-May.
Leon 'Rocky' Edwards has been involved in mixed martial arts since he was sixteen years of age and is an excellent all-around fighter. He generally prefers to strike but has attempted 44 takedowns in his UFC career, so he isn't afraid to take the fight to the mat either. He is currently in the midst of seven-fight win streak and is coming off of split decision victory over Gunnar Nelson.
The Brazilian will be the smaller man in this fight. Edwards is roughly seven inches taller than his opponent and will enjoy a four-inch reach advantage. 'Rocky' will probably try and use his advantages to keep dos Anjos at a distance and pick him apart with combinations. For his part, dos Anjos will look to close the distance and take his opponent to mat in an effort neutralize his size advantage. This fight should feature some fun back and forth exchanges on the feet and plenty of good scrambles on the mat. In the end, Edwards superior reach should allow him to squeak out a hard-fought decision.
The Pick: Edwards via decision.
