4. Patrick Stewart To Play The Meddling Monk
In many ways, it's strange that Patrick Stewart hasn't appeared in Doctor Who. After all, he's been in everything else: Star Trek, X-Men, Family Guy, American Dad. The tabloids clearly thought it was time for Stewart to add Doctor Who to his CV, and reported that he was to play the Meddling Monk in an upcoming episode.
This was back in 2008, around the time that he would likely be in rehearsals – if not on-stage – as Claudius, opposite David Tennant's Hamlet at the Royal Shakespeare Company. Easy to put two and two together and get five, in those circumstances. Unless of course Stewart and Tennant plotted out a return for the Meddling Monk between the matinee and the evening performance.
The Monk is, like the Rani, one of those B-list Time Lord villains that is often attached to big-name actors who've yet to appear in the show. Gillian Anderson, for example, has been rumoured Rani casting several times over the years. We're still waiting on that one.
