10 AEW Stars Who Desperately Need New Gimmicks

5. Varsity Blonds

While it'd be foolish to write such a young group off entirely, the Varsity Blonds are currently close to circling the drain as an act.

Brian Pillman Jr. and Griff Garrison have worked just two televised tag matches this year, one of which was a battle royale. Julia Hart, meanwhile, is in the midst of a Malakai Black-induced transformation. Increasingly aloof and mentally detached from the group, the eyepatch-clad cheerleader has done a great job in her shifting role, particularly with muting the enthusiasm that once defined her, while her House of Black induction is teased elsewhere.

Hart helped complete the Varsity Blonds following her introduction. Now, with their forward motion effectively levelled by the Kings of the Black Throne, Garrison and Pillman Jr. are aching for something new.

The duo have only been together for two years and yet their gimmick already feels long in the tooth. Ditching the varsity jackets and hair metal would serve them well, whether they are to progress together apart, even if it's to be a while before they are seriously pushed.
