10 ALMOST Impossible Wrestling Comebacks That Might Actually Happen
2. CM Punk
Mired in an ugly lawsuit with WWE, his return may not be imminent, but a humbling UFC loss to Mickey Gall in 2016 was a keen reminder of where he was best served making a living.
In the November 2014 Art of Wrestling Podcast double bill with Colt Cabana that caused much of the current legal unrest, Punk spoke at length on his deep-rooted unhappiness with numerous aspects of working for WWE, virtually guaranteeing that a full-time return would never occur.
Openly drained of passion and enthusiasm for the job, Punk professed his relief to be away from the grind of something he'd clearly grown to loathe, but time is sure to heal the wounds.
Vince McMahon suggested in a 2014 interview with Steve Austin that he'd work with Punk again, and during a time where the company remains thin on stars for the major shows, the 'Straight Edge Superstar' would most likely be considered in the headline slot he was desperate to achieve as a full-timer.
The irony wouldn't be lost on many should Punk dip back in to the company on a part-time basis, but if he would be willing to park his own self-loathing for personal vindication (and presumably, a very healthy payday), potential stories around his comeback could be sensational.
