10 Amazing Contributions Scott Hall Made To Professional Wrestling

9. Pioneering The Ladder Match

While the origins of the ladder match trace back to 1970s Stampede Wrestling, it was a match type unfamiliar to mainstream wrestling audiences.

When Razor Ramon and Shawn Michaels prepared to do battle over the Intercontinental Championship at WWF’s WrestleMania X in 1994, there had only been one other ladder match in the promotion.

Despite this, Razor would capture the gold in a legendary showing and the match would earn the only 5-star rating from Dave Meltzer for the PPV. This groundbreaking encounter still holds up as a fantastic ladder match, laying a solid foundation for the more extreme ladder matches on offer today.

In a video featuring “The Bad Guy” and HBK rewatching the match together in 2019, Hall revealed how easily the match could've went sideways:

"The funny part too, a lot of people don't know, now at every show there's ladders and chairs and kendo sticks. There was one ladder in that building and it's right there. If we had bent that ladder or broke it, we'd still be standing there."
