10 Arguments WWE Fans Will Probably Never Stop Debating

4. Who Actually Screwed Bret?

Was it Vince? Was it Shawn Michaels? Or was it, as Mr. McMahon was so quick to point out the night after the Montréal Screwjob, truly Bret who screwed Bret?

For this one, it really depends on your location on the globe and your opinion on what it means to "do business." You'd be hard-pressed to find many Canadian wrestling fans who believe Bret was at fault here, while everyone else is a little more divided on the subject.

As for the "doing business" aspect, a lot of people in and out of the industry would agree that the right thing for Bret to do in that situation was to drop the belt before leaving the company. Because you should always try to put the next guy over on your way out the door.

Others think the dirty deeds behind the scenes went too far in "forcing" Bret to drop the belt, even though he'd been told before that he wouldn't have to. Beyond that, some would suggest Vince should have done more in trying to retain Bret, restructuring his contract to offer him what he was worth.

Shawn Michaels role may have been limited to simply following Vince's orders that night, though even HBK has insinuated he came up with the actual spot that put them in position to ring the bell and "get the job done."

Others believe the whole thing was a work that all three were involved in and have simply been amazing at keeping it a secret all these years. Hmmm.
