10 Awesome UFC Fighters Who Went On Terrible Runs

7. Stephen Thompson

Stephen Thompson is the fighting personification of 'close, but no cigar'.

Coming into his long awaited title shot with UFC Welterweight Champion, Tyron Woodley, Wonderboy had amassed a superb 13-1 record in MMA and looked to finally earn the title that this fantastic run warranted.

He would draw the first of their two bouts and lose a majority decision in the rematch, yet Thompson would bounce back with a decision victory over the current BMF Champion, Jorge Masvidal.

Not being able to capitalise on this resurgence, he would then fall victim to another decision loss (this time to Darren Till) and got himself knocked out by Anthony Pettis.

This once burgeoning star has seen his credibility take a hit over the last few years, but you can't help but wonder where he'd be if a few of those decisions had gone his way.

He got back to winning ways against Vicente Luque at UFC 244 and with his record currently standing at 15-4-1, all may not be lost just yet.
