10 Babyface Champions WWE Fans Just Wouldn’t Accept

7. Dean Ambrose (2016)

Hulking size or an extraordinary physique is not something Dean Ambrose has in his arsenal, but the 'Lunatic Fringe' does possess an off-the-wall charm to his performances.

The main issue with Ambrose as WWE Champion in the summer of 2016 wasn't the shock nature of his victory (Dean cashed in his Money In The Bank privileges on Seth Rollins just after Rollins himself had beaten Roman Reigns), but had more to do with how the man was booked in the immediate aftermath.

Too often, the clearly talented Ambrose is made to look goofy rather than threatening in his promos, and that was true even when he reigned on top as champ.

By the time Dean dropped the strap to AJ Styles at Backlash, he was already outstaying his welcome in the hot seat, but WWE's writing team must take most of the blame for that; Ambrose was consistently presented as an afterthought champion, and that presentation - along with the sugar-coated violence he was written to boast about - made it challenging for WWE's hardcore to tolerate his time on top.
