WWE's first attempt at War Games, the classic concept match made famous by the likes of Ric Flair, Dusty Rhodes and Sting in the NWA's 1980s heyday, had the potential to go one one of two very different ways.

Either it would be a roaring success, leading to calls for Vince McMahon to make it a permanent part of his pay-per-view calendar (perhaps even involving some of the main roster stars) - or, it would be a colossal failure, on a par with the time he tried to revive ECW without the "extreme".

Happily, the wrestling world could breathe a collective sigh of relief at the final bell of the night's main event, in which Adam Cole's Undisputed Era triumphed over Sanity and The Authors of Pain (with 100% extra Roderick Strong) after 36-minutes of absolute brilliance.

Perhaps this is a novelty that, like the Elimination Chamber, will eventually wear thin when WWE start putting it on seven times a year (with four on the same night) but for now it remains something you can't take your eyes off even for a moment.
