4. Damien Sandow Becomes The First To Lose A MITB Cash-In
Damien Sandow's cash-in was not the first unsuccessful attempt, but he did become the first person to lose outright. It may not have been a positive moment, but the occasion marked a page in WWE's history book nevertheless.
Sandow is clear proof that winning the Money in the Bank briefcase is not a clear indication of the company putting faith in a talent. It wasn't too difficult to see Sandow's failed cash-in coming considering he had recorded one win and 12 losses on the Raw and SmackDown episodes prior.
Predictably, Sandow came up short against John Cena despite a beatdown before the challenge.
Sandow's unsuccessful Money in the Bank briefcase cash-in made him the first to lose an attempt via pinfall after Cena himself cashed in the previous year for a match on a later date (which ended in disqualification).
