5. “Due To A Wardrobe Malfunction, Eva Marie Cannot Compete”
Over the years, we’ve seen matches finish in a whole host of ways. But on SmackDown this week, and potentially for the first time ever, we saw a match end before it even began on account of a wrestler’s clothes falling off.
With Eva Marie’s top mysteriously detaching itself from her person, referee Dan Engler was forced to inform Greg Hamilton that he’d have to announce that “due to a wardrobe malfunction, Eva Marie cannot compete” and therefore the match would not take place.
Besides being a bizarre line in itself, this was another great element to a very creative storyline that is making the absolute most of Eva’s limited abilities. Once again, she managed to get herself over as a heel without even hitting a single move, and for that the creative team deserves credit.
I know we’re supposed to be hating on Eva for finding all these cowardly ways of getting out of matches, but in a strange kind of way, part of me is keen just to see what they’ll come up with next. Either way, it’s got me interested in Eva; a sentence I never thought I’d see myself writing.
