Never one to be outshone, though, JBL put in an equally adept performance at the announce desk, providing us with a number of one-liners throughout the course of the evening.

We were treated to a Dr. Shelby mention during Orton’s meeting with Del Rio, before he later made a reference to the oldest trope in the WWE playbook when he ruefully wished there was a Spanish announce table to sabotage instead of theirs.

But possibly the best line of the lot was his gibe at Rhyno following his win over Slater, cursing the Democratic Representative-elect of Dearborn, MI, and taking a swipe at his new career path.

“Rhyno, you damn politician” were his derogatory words, in another quip that didn’t necessarily have much of an impact other than providing a little light-heartedness.

JBL’s come in for criticism in recent weeks, but he seemed to deliver a much better performance on this most recent episode of SmackDown. Much like the case of his colleague Otunga, here’s hoping the two of them can keep it up.
