The parallels between D-Generation X and the nWo are obvious - both were renegade groups, ones which started out as heel factions, but quickly became popular with audiences. Both DX and the New World Order were considered 'cool' by wrestling fans, which meant they could get away with doing things that didn't necessarily make them heels or babyfaces.

Post-WrestleMania 14, the group's leader, Shawn Michaels was facing an extended lay off from active in-ring competition. This meant that Triple H was promoted to being the figurehead of the stable, one which would branch out to include some new members going forward.

HHH and Chyna were eventually joined by The New Age Outlaws, but not before none other than Sean Waltman returned to the WWF. Known as Syxx during his time with WCW, Waltman was redubbed 'X-Pac', and showed up on Raw to talk about why he had decided to join DX. What followed was a rant about how Kevin Nash and Scott Hall would rather be on Raw, but were under ironclad contracts to WCW, and the wrestling world promptly blew up over the promo Waltman cut.
