10 Best Simultaneous WWE Heavyweight Champions

9. Edge (WWE) & Kurt Angle (World) - 2006

A captivating-but-brief spell at the start of 2006 saw Raw's ratings skyrocket under the stewardship of the 'Rated-R Superstar' whilst Kurt Angle shored up a struggling SmackDown roster by (shockingly, for the time) jumping from the red brand to win a title vacated by Dave Batista.

Bottled in the weeks between New Year's Revolution and the Royal Rumble in a stacked January, Edge and Angle were refreshing changes at the top of the card as replacements for longstanding champions John Cena and Batista. The young upstarts had been justifiably rocket-strapped with long maiden tenures, creating significant heat and tension when both were supplanted in a matter of weeks.

Edge's Money In The Bank cash-in on 'The Champ' only kicked off a fleeting first run after Cena regained at the Rumble, but Kurt escaped with his gold in tact on the very same show. In what turned out to be his final World Heavyweight Championship run, he lasted all the way through to a short but scintillating triple threat loss at WrestleMania via an unbelievable Undertaker effort at No Way Out in between.

By 2006, his time in WWE was near its end. Edge, thankfully, was only just beginning to define a golden legacy.
