10 Best Times WWE Stars Pulled Double Duty
1. Daniel Bryan - WrestleMania XXX
If there was anyone left (outside WWE management) that didn't think Daniel Bryan was a genuine megastar, they were basically obliged to change their minds after his performance at WrestleMania XXX. In one night, Daniel Bryan defeated nepotism (Triple H), the concept of the ideal WWE superstar (Randy Orton) and the spectre of the privileged part-timer (Batista).
In order to squeeze into the Orton/Batista title match that no one wanted to see, D-Bry first had to defeat Triple H. And he did, in what was probably the best non-Michaels match of Hunter’s career. Apparently prepping by binge-watching old ROH tapes, Triple H tried to match Bryan hold-for-hold, including hitting a damn tiger suplex.
Still, Bryan powered through and put Trips down with a Knee Plus. Triple H then beat him to death after the bell, but these things happen.
Having earned his title shot, Bryan spent most of the match being ping-ponged around by his larger opponents and trying to protect the injuries he suffered in his first match. Eventually, Dandy Randy and Big Dave figured out that they were the Clubber Lang and Ivan Drago in this Rocky story and decided to team up to eliminate the underdog hero via table spot murder.
In the end, Bryan’s will proved indomitable, and he clawed his way back from the wreckage of the announce table to trap Batista in a Yes! Lock to win the match and the championship. Bryan's subsequent retirement only made the moment more memorable, if not bittersweet. Perhaps he spoilt it a bit coming back?
