10 Best Wrestlers In WWE Over The Age Of 40
3. John Cena
At One Night Stand 2006, as a fresh-faced 29-year-old, John Cena was showered with “you can’t wrestle” chants from a hostile New York crowd. That sentiment remained for quite some time, and it wasn’t until recently that many fans turned a corner on Cena, to the point that he’s now rightfully recognized as one of the better workers in the company.
It was mainly his United States title run of 2015 that sparked the change in opinion. Having won the title from Rusev at WrestleMania 31, Cena went on to defend the belt on 14 occasions in 147 days, before losing it to Seth Rollins at SummerSlam.
It wasn’t just the frequency of matches that impressed - it was their length and quality also. Highlights included a 30-minute showdown with Cesaro on Raw, as well as clinics with the likes of Sami Zayn, Neville and Kevin Owens, amongst others.
Sharing the spotlight with those up-and-comers not only earned Cena a ton of respect, it also proved he really could wrestle and was more than just a marketing tool.
His recent work with AJ Styles was the icing on the cake, as he ushered in the big 4-0 with even the hardcores admitting that SuperCena's not so bad after all.
