7. A Tribe Called Red - Suplex

A Tribe Called Red are next with the title-track of their wrestling themed EP, 'Suplex'. A Canadian DJ troupe, their music is described as 'powwow-step', and I honestly have no idea what that means.

The video shows the evolution we all wish to go as fans. It starts with the youth, the posters on the wall (Randy Savage, Ricky Steamboat and some dude who is a Superb Fly and definitely isn't Jimmy Snuka) and the wrestling on mattresses. The kids are grappling, the ropes are loose and everything is innocent enough.

Our hero attends a show, and decides it is what he must do. He goes through the various stages of development, before becoming a luchador himself and defeating someone who looks suspiciously like Zack Sabre Jr.

It ends with another young pup pulling on a luchador mask. Excellent.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
