10 Best WWE Attitude Era PPVs

10. King Of The Ring 1998

When King of the Ring 1998 is good, it's phenomenal, but at its worst it's abysmal. The good more than outweighs the bad however, earning it a spot on this list. There's three matches on the show that don't even warrant talking about, but everything rates somewhere between "great" and "legendary". The tournament itself isn't thoroughly memorable, but that's an unfortunate bi-product of the event of the show. The Rock v Ken Shamrock is possibly the most underrated feud of The Great One's career, and it all comes to a head here in the finals of the tournament. Besides that, there's a thrilling X-Pac v Owen Hart match and the main event First Blood match between Steve Austin and Kane proved Kane could hang in the main event. The reason why King of the Ring 98 is so important, as everyone knows, is the Hell in a Cell match between The Undertaker and Mankind. It's a match that would undoubtedly not happen in today's world, and if it did, would be stopped almost immediately. Both men pushed themselves to the absolute limit, while Foley's sacrifices are well known not many people notice The Undertaker break his foot as he drops from the cell into the ring. This is the show that has the match that kickstarted Mankind's career. If it wasn't for this match, would Mankind have won the title on the infamous January 4th Raw? If Mankind didn't win the title, would WWF ever overtake WCW in the ratings war? This show has far reaching consequences besides the immediate ones, and as such is a must watch PPV from this era.
