Come on, what else could it have been?

CM Punk's gargantuan 434-day reign with the WWE Championship did not begin at Money in the Bank 2011. That reign ended after a month when Alberto Del Rio cashed in at SummerSlam.

Punk would have to wait until Survivor Series to properly get going, but when he did, he didn't hold back.

Highlights from this once-in-a-generation run included his matches with Chris Jericho, Daniel Bryan, and his most fervent opponent, John Cena. Matches with Ryback and Mark Henry weren't great, and neither was the way in which Punk was cast aside in favour of The Rock, but you can't expect a 14-month title reign to be nothing but hits.

This was the longest WWE Championship reign since the days of Hulk Hogan. Punk was unlike fans had seen in a very long time, through a heady mixture of history, great matches, and killer character work.

This reign is still a bit of Phil's enduring popularity and, most importantly, he didn't get into any backstage fights with management... that we know of.
