First things first, how great a name for a tag team is 'The Powers of Pain'? It is as late 1980s as it gets. The Warlord and The Barbarian might both be best known now for putting on consistently awful singles matches in late early 90s WWF, but they actually got their break in the business as a tag team called The Powers of Pain.

Chances are that if you can name three tag teams from the so-called 'Power & Paint' school, The Powers of Pain will be the third of those. They suffered somewhat from this, clearly lagging behind the Legion of Doom in the popularity department as well as behind Demolition in the 'sneakily great at tag team wrestling' equivalent.

Still, they were the top team in the division for a short while without picking up the gold. They were kept extremely strong throughout their reign, eliminating both members of Demolition at the 1989 Survivor Series before being eliminated by disqualification themselves, but by springtime 1990 the singles division beckoned.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
