10 Biggest Screw-Ups Committed By WWE Superstars

3. Macho Man Eliminates Himself From The Royal Rumble

The first of two Royal Rumble-related entries, Randy Savage made a calamitous mistake during the 1992 edition of the match (although it didn't prevent the bout from being widely regarded as the best Rumble in history). Just as Cameron forgot the most basic rule of a standard wrestling match, the Macho Man let the entire concept of the Royal Rumble slip his mind as he leapt over top rope to attack his arch-enemy Jake Roberts. The main problem here wasn't just that Savage made himself look a little bit idiotic in eliminating himself; he was actually supposed to return to the ring and continue wrestling. It's a silly but understandable error - Savage's offensive style was famously high-octane and energetic, and the feud with Roberts was an intense and emotional one - but it immediately caused confusion with the crowd. Gorilla Monsoon and Bobby Heenan quickly rushed to cover him, explaining that an elimination doesn't count if a superstar isn't touched by another wrestler, but this didn't correspond with any similar incidents before or since. Fortunately, nobody seems to have made a similar mistake since. Self-eliminations such as Kane's in 2000 are usually part of a storyline befitting the character, while others (like Alex Riley's accidental fall in 2011) are purely accidental. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RLbf_dlQllw
