10 Biggest Talking Points From WWE SmackDown (Aug 16)
1. Beat Up AJ Styles
John Cena defeated Alberto Del Rio with an Attitude Adjustment, but as soon as he got up, AJ Styles - who had been doing commentary during the bout - floored him with the Phenomenal Forearm. He turned to leave the ring, then decided to keep up the beating. It looked like Styles would stand tall heading into SummerSlam, but when he attempted the Styles Clash, Cena scooped his leg and hit an AA.
That wasn't the end of it, though. Cena stripped down the announcers' table, then set up the ring steps right next to it. After hoisting Styles on his shoulders and climbing the steps, he took "The Phenomenal One" out with an AA through the table.
Even though it was disheartening to see Styles beaten so badly, age-old wrestling logic may mean that it bodes well for him. More often than not, whoever's left down and out at the end of the go-home show ends up winning at the PPV. As Styles really needs to win, this works out well.
