It was never about Canada. Hart told Michaels on October 12 in San Jose that despite their problems, he would gladly put Michaels over in Montreal at Survivor Series. Shooting his mouth off, Michaels told Hart in front of a locker room full of peers that he had no intentions of doing the same for him.

Feeling disrespected, Hart reversed his stance, and refused to lose to Michaels at the pay-per-view.

Imagine if Michaels doesn't get cute with Hart in that moment. Maybe Survivor Series goes off without a hitch, and we don't get the infamous screw job. But because we did get it, that leads to the next major turning point....
