Unfortunately for WCW, the most charismatic wrestler to ever grace the squared circle was never going to be theirs. Aside from a tune-up tenure with Jerry Lawler's USWA in 1996, virtually the entirety of The Rock's professional wrestling career would come under the employ of McMahon. He would become one of the greatest weapons in wresting control of the Monday Night Wars away from WCW, and securing clear victory for the Stamford empire.

Unless McMahon was inclined to release once-poorly-received Rock in the summer of 1997, as has been speculated, there was little chance that Dwayne Johnson would have ever broken ties for a bigger payday. There were always grand plans for "The Great One" in WWE, and the winning formula was eventually happened upon.
