In an earlier entry, it was proposed that Shane McMahon make a Fatal 4-Way bout to establish who will be a contender for the title after the pay-per-view. As good as the story between AJ Styles and Roman Reigns is heading into Payback, it remains unlikely that AJ will actually win and become WWE Champion.

Presuming Reigns is still the champ, he would have to face the winner of this main event at some point over the next few weeks on Monday Night Raw or SmackDown. Sami Zayn would be that man, overcoming his rival Kevin Owens, as well as both Chris Jericho and Dean Ambrose.

Zayn and Owens are scheduled to meet at Payback themselves, and it'd send Zayn in with a lot of momentum if he was guaranteed a WWE Title opportunity further down the line. It'd also give the bout some more story, why wouldn't Owens be looking to injure his foe at Payback, thus taking him out of the title picture?

If nothing else, a Sami Zayn win would be unexpected, and would pop the crowd in a big way.
