Rob Van Dam? More like Rip Van Winkle, as this guy makes me want to sleep for 20 years! Van Dam only shows up once in a long while these days, but it takes only minutes for him to settle back into a well tread groove. While everyone ages, at least wrestlers like The Rock, Chris Jericho and Batista attempt new things when they come back. Not Van Dam. Hes the same guy hes been since he first debuted in WWE in 2002. In ECW he was wilder, and obviously more athletic in the ring, but he was also a heel for a time. Now when he does talk, its still the same hey man, whatever type attitude thats not really endearing for a man in his 40s. What also hurt Van Dam greatly this last run was the fact that he wasnt treated as anything special. Unlike Jericho and Batista who received actual programs, Van Dam was just thrown out randomly on Raw and SmackDown without any storyline support. There were times hed lose within a matter of minutes and the announcers didnt make a big deal of it. Since the company didnt treat his apperances as special, it was hard for the fans to really care. Well if Van Dam does decide to ever return, lets hope that he at least does something different, because its kind of scary to think of something less eventful than his last run.
As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at."
Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week.
