After being gone for nearly a month filming the latest installment of the movie series that wouldn’t die, “The Marine 19: Cleaning the Latrine,” the Miz returned to WWE recently and immediately was forced to defend his Intercontinental Championship. Thankfully for the Awesome One, he was able to take a countout loss to Kane to preserve his title.

But Miz will need a dance partner for Battleground, and with no one readily apparent, it looks like we’re going to have an old-fashioned battle royal to determine a #1 contender. Look for the usual gathering of mid-carders and tag team wrestlers, with a couple notables thrown in. Someone will emerge as the top guy, and we’ll then get all of two weeks to build to their match (assuming it will take place at Battleground).

Then again, there’s always the chance that someone could debut from NXT to appear in the battle royal and actually win. It wouldn’t be the strangest thing, and it wouldn’t be the first time it’s happened this year…
