If you subscribe to the WWE Network, then you’ve likely been bombarded with advertisements and announcements of the upcoming Cruiserweight Classic, a 32-man single elimination tournament beginning on Wednesday (though matches already have been filmed – no spoilers, please).

If you watched last week’s CWC Bracketology program on the Network, you can see that this is quite unlike anything WWE has done before. The tournament is being treated like a legitimate sporting event, much like the NCAA’s March Madness or NFL playoffs or the World Cup, with match-up analysis and background stories on competitors. This is being treated like a big deal, and it could turn out to be a landmark event if it plays out properly (Mauro Ranallo and Daniel Bryan referenced the Super J-Cup tournament from Japan).

But will the CWC be mentioned on Raw? Given all the hype on the Network and the international flavor of the tournament, it would only make sense to plug the event on Raw to try to encourage more people to subscribe to the Network to watch it.

True, no current WWE stars are competing (though several NXT wrestlers and former WWE talent Tajiri and Brian Kendrick are participating), but you’ve got to imagine WWE won’t pass up an opportunity to try to hook a few thousand new subscribers, right?
