10 Celebrities You Didn't Know Are Wrestling Fans
1. Werner Herzog
The legendary German director tackles the big issues - life and death, obsession, man’s eternal war with nature - but at his core, he really loves wrestling. For decades now, the intense film maker has brought up sports entertainment at any given opportunity, and while he tries to treat his fandom as an intellectual exercise, Herzog is a mark through and through.
He has brought up wrestling - specifically WrestleMania - in all manner of conflicts. As a modern day retelling of Greek myths. As a fascinating mesh of the real and the unreal. As a terrifying ordeal from which the filmmaker must not shy away. As a perplexing phenomenon.
But then when he lets his guard down, it’s obvious that he just really enjoys it. He has bafflingly described the Vince vs Shane McMahon feud at ‘Mania X-Seven in great detail. He dedicated a few pages of his book to Jesse Ventura, who he thinks is just super, and even described WrestleMania as his ideal night out.
Someone needs to tell Werner there’s no stigma about being a wrestling fan anymore. If he could switch off his intellectual brain and just have a laugh, he’d have even more fun.
