10 Compelling Contenders For John Cena's US Title Open Challenges

5. Tyson Kidd

The great thing about these Cena open challenges, is that it is a great way to serialize WWE storytelling. Each week he defends against a new opponent, each with their own contained story that can either directly correlate with his, or tangentially intersect with the path of the United States Champion. In most cases these self-contained one week narratives can be spun off into compelling stories that have nothing to do with John Cena, but started with the opportunity he provides. Thus would be the case is Tyson Kidd, one half of the WWE Tag Team Champions answered the challenge issued by the leader of the Cenation.

Firstly, can we all just agree that a Tyson Kidd vs. John Cena match would be rad? There are very few self contained John Cena matches that would be more impressive than this one. Cena has been doing a great job of making his opponents look like a million bucks even in defeat. Add that kind of rub to the already overflowing in-ring talent that Tyson Kidd possesses, and there is no doubt that Tyson and Cena will put on a great show. After coming close but losing, Tyson will have to answer to his tag team partner Cesaro, who knew nothing about his ally’s intention to answer the challenge. Kidd will try to play it off as an opportunity he couldn’t ignore and had to try to take. He will implore Cesaro not to take it as a slight against him or their team. This will seemingly have been smoothed over…
