10 Craziest Wrestling Moments That Ever Happened Live

2. The Last Ever Monday Nitro

On March 26th 2001, the final nails went in the coffin of World Championship Wrestling, the other side on the Monday Night War, the final barrier between Vincent Kennedy McMahon and complete domination of the North American pro wrestling market. That€™s the date that the final Nitro aired€ and fans tuning in were left in no doubt as to what had happened, because the first thing they saw was this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S9vPNRBDQdA Not exactly subtle, was it? But the man was playing in character, and what would you expect from Mr. McMahon? Vince McMahon, on the other hand, was busily easing the transition, making sure that the final Nitro went well, and that the talent still working for WCW didn€™t feel marginalised. He even personally requested Sting vs. Ric Flair for the final main event of the show, having been a fan of theirs for years. Of course, that doesn€™t make any of this less of a surreal and weird-ass moment for the fans watching as their favourite wrestling show slowly spun its way down the plughole. Even worse would be the realisation that WCW€™s demise had already been written into WWF storylines: it would be about the McMahons (naturally) being at loggerheads with one another. Shane would (kayfabe) buy WCW and set it up as a rival brand against Vince€™s WWF. It didn€™t work out quite like that: deciding that no WWF fans wanted to see WCW in any form, the emphasis in the conflict was shifted to a less complex invasion storyline. Still, as moments in pro wrestling history go, turning on Nitro to see Vince McMahon gloating at you has to be a doozy.
